View Full Version : country singer looking to join/start band
I posted this in the EP Times forum, but this appears to get read more. My voice and style is similar to Toby Keith, Keith Whitley, Garth Brooks and Josh Turner.....not all at once, though. I know many covers, but want to hook up with someone who has some original material as well and start performing. I'm available most evenings and weekends, so if your interested and want to hear me, let me know so we can make arrangements.

Greg, have you played in any Local/Regional bands? Any audio demo's online?
As you are probably aware, their are only a couple of locations with live CW, being Whiskey Dicks and White Stallion. Perhaps Stampede will be added to the list now that Ronnie Mc bought it.
Here's an idea...show up the The Riviera on Doniphan the 21st.
Good luck. I am look forward to hearing you.

There is the Longhorn on Doniphan and on Friday nights Margaritas has CW bands. I do not know of any in Las Cruces, I am sure they have some.:rock_band:

You might want to talk to Tim Thomson at the Edge of Texas he should know what is happening in El Paso.
Q and Ludwig,
I appreciate you taking the time to respond to my post. You both are very helpful to everyone on here I noticed and that's why I felt comfortable posting my request. Keep it up.
Get this......Last night, my buddy and I went to the White Stallion hoping to meet the band playing (Borderline) and ask them for contacts. (Shot in the dark, right?) During one of their breaks, I met Larry (lead singer) and when we told him I sang and was looking for a band, he graciously asked if I wanted to sing a few songs with the band during the next set. WOW! I could not believe he would give up his stage time to let someone he met a mere 30 seconds before and NEVER heard sing on top of that!!!!! I sang 4 songs before thinking I was finished for the night. During their next break, Larry approached me and asked me to sing again during their final set. I am still in shock he let me come up on his stage and sing with the band. I will never forget what he did last night for me. Anyways, I think he may be able to point me towards some people who are looking, so last night was as successful for me as I could ever hope for. After they were done, he asked me to come back and sing again tonite (Sat), but I'm taking my wife out on a long over due dinner, and since they don't play there again for 2 weeks, I'll have to wait to get back out there. He told me to come back any time and he would get me back up on stage with them. This was the first time I have sang with a live band and there is nothing like it in the world. I can't wait to get back up there again!
By the way, I recorded some videos last year and they are on youtube..com. Search for Toby Keith and then scroll through the video posts on the right. You will find my videos under my screen name "Tbykth'. I have about 25 songs on my page of various artists, but at the time, I was on a Toby Keith kick, so mostly there are covers of his songs. Keep in mind I recorded them at home just messing around with the camcorder, so they are not very good quality vids, but you should be able to hear what my voice is like. Thanks again for your advice, and I look forward to hearing any comments.

Cool stuff! yeah, live is nothing like karaoke or playing to recorded tracks as there is a bit of magic in the interactive part of playing with a band.
Toby Keith...when I worked at KHEY is 97', he was in town for a show at the Collisium. The station was doing the St. Jude marathon at Bassett center and I had to pick him up in the ol' Y van. Anyway, did you know he used to play Pro football in canada for 2 years? He told me he was too small for the NFL, but had a love for the game. During lunch in Juarez, he mentioned he had played quite a bit in Las Cruces and throughout NM while working his way up.
It was a trip seeing his tv commercials with Terry Bradshaw and seeing his vide of "Look at Me Now"...his football background was evident.
A decent and grounded guy.

About all I can say is WOW..... This guy is really Damned good ... If you have not listened to him you can do so here: http://youtube.com/results?search_query=Tbykth&search=Search I would think that someone would be wanting to pick him up ... Does Country a LOT better than he does Elvis, but then again not many people can do Elvis justice!! WOW !!

Finally had a chance to give listen to Greg's tube site. I am very impressed and why in the hell have you not gotten on Nashville Star? I am able to see why Larry let you sing so much, he better be careful he could lose his job. ha
Maybe one day we can jam at the White Stallion . I know almost all the musicians
there, I know they will let you sit in and hope they let me. ha

When I was young I did not care for county to much. but as time past by as I played in many different country bands I started to love it. it is almost like playing blues which is my favorite. Funny thing back in the 80's I was playing in classic rock band, then Saturday night fever came out. We had to switch to disco to make a living, I did not care for disco to much but, I sure did like to play it. The bass got to play all the leads in the songs. ha Then John T came out with Urban Cowboy and we had to switch to CW, had a blast playing that. ha
It is good to keep a open mind on all types of music one is able to learn from it. I listen to the rock the young kids are playing it is easy and I like most of it. I guess I could get into being a head banger band for awhile. Just have to be very careful I have lost about 50% of my hearing from playing in many loud bands. Come on out and jam Sly it is allot of fun. It would be nice to have a drummer again at the jam. :coolsmiley:
