On Friday, August 21st join us at Mckelligon Canyon for Los Fabulocos at 7PM.
"Los Fabulocos play with enough energy to power a small fleet of lowrider vehicles. It's a fuel that burns full- throttle, ignited by the heat of soulful guitar and accordion solos that will make your heart bleed."

Thanks for the post Miguel. Jimmy Murphy is doing a great job of creating blues events. Will you and the Bluesman be working the stage?

For the Fabulocos or the one on the 28th? Haven't been appointed to either one...I am a very good friend of the band leader for the Moon Dogs, so he might ask me to.

Wooohooo..... sounds like a kewl jam session.... you even get to PAY to play in this jam session. (can you sense the sarcasm) But not to worry, you will probably only get to play if you are some of the chosen few.

If you want to get heard on how well you play, you will have to pay for the privilege. Perhaps those times, in where you get to play at a venue like this, where you get paid for your performance, may come back someday when the economic times are sunnier. For right now, with the overcast clouds constantly raining down on us, you have got to stop complaining with what life has dished out for you and instead learn to sing in the rain jubilantly, even if it means that you have to pay your way in to participate. Keep your head held high, because the times will eventually change as we have all got to make do for now with what we have gracefully.

I am just one of the hired help on this gig, but the "jam session" is not an open jam session. It's just the bands that are scheduled jamming at the end. The Blues Jam at King's-X, the 1st Wed. of each month is an open jam session.

If the jam is not an open jam, that is cool with me. I understand. Nowadays, John, I am not worried about how much attention, or the lack of attention, that I am getting for my expressions of music. I have a feeling that soon, I will have more attention than I have bargained for, for which I, will have memories of the bliss that I had of the times when my times were simpler. After seeing what fame has done to some of the members of our own human family, I don't particularly want it as badly as I used to. But, for me, it is too late to turn back. I must face what is coming with courage gracefully but also be wary of the opportunistic pitfalls that come along with it. As always, I will look forward to having just plain fun creating music on the fly with new combinations of musicians in those places where the venue has been fashioned for just those kinds of events. My point is that I enjoy creating music, whether I do it for free or just happen to get paid for it. My heart has always been with music, but lately, almost totally in it now because I am not sure that I want it as badly as some of the rest of my musical collegues.

Yea, I agree with you 100%. We played a great gig in Bisbee, Az a few weeks back. By the time we paid for gas, food, and a hotel, we broke even, but it was a bar full of partying people who loved our music. That was my favorite gig this summer. Of course, there are several people on this site who ARE trying to make a living off music. I too would have a different attitude if I was trying to pay my bills with music. I saw first hand how hard Art Lewis had to work to make ends meet.

The Blues In The Box event was great. Pat Chase was at his best, he put on a great show. It was the best blues I have seen in El Paso. Jimmy said the turnout was definitely better than the Los Fabulocos event. I hope the turnout was enough to keep the event going. Pat's harp player Paul Dutton was awesome. If you close your eyes you would think it was Little Walter up there wailing away on the his Mississippi Saxaphone.

Good to heat it went well. Jimmy and I were talking about how the Canyon is under utilized and should be used more often. Hoping to see Jimmy tonight.
