I found a Ludwig tom that I believe looks just like my snare

You should. You have been busy expanding your horizons...it can be a good thing...
by the way Sly, the guitar is both a stringed and a percussion instrument...
while I agree w/ vic that it's good to expand, keep in mind there's only 24hrs in a day and you only live X number of years... but, hey, music is for enjoyment, so do what makes you happy. otherwise what's the point?

Im a guitar player, with a quickly growing passion for percusion,Im trying to build a mini set, if you will, for my studio.
IMO,a triggered kick and floor tom sound realistic enough for me,but not the small toms or the snare.
My new drummer said something that holds true (IMO) the bigger the drum and lower the freq, the more realistic triggered drums sound.
If I could play the drums,I would be one happy camper,I wouldnt have to bother any of my buds to lay down some tracks for me, but the fact of the matter is,Im not,so I might as well get the tools I need to get it down.
My new drummer said something that holds true (IMO) the bigger the drum and lower the freq, the more realistic triggered drums sound.I would think that higher freq. drums are somewhat more dynamic as far as how hard you hit them and technique. that would make triggers sound relatively unrealistic I guess.

I have been experimenting quite a bit with the "fun" of getting a great snare sound to tape. I must admit, so far my favorite sound is with a cheap $100.00 piccalo knock off I bought from MF a few years ago. it has a crack I can not get from any of my other snares, obviously due to its dinky depth.

That sounds kick ass Ron!
Dude,we are on the same boat!
Ive been experimenting on mics for the snare.
How is the 81 working for u?
The small pencil Joe Meek condensor for over head is suprising the crap out of me Ron!,really,no kidding dude.
I personally like the crack of a small snare
