Well was @ work on my Tascam today. Can't get off that Drop C tuning. BEEEEEFY. Going to have my Red Les Paul set up that way. Used that for the "Chug Chug" riffs. The Leads are done in Standard Tuning...strings are too loose when in Drop C. Song is in works...basic structure complete.

Sly...it needs some Bass Lines!!!! See what you can do with it.

H, do I hear some Arabic style scales there? I like it!

Yeah...it is that Phrygian Mode...remembering my scales, theory and modes from my 1st year of Music in college. Actually learned all my modes and scales via Doug Marks "Metal Method" guitar lessons when I was 14 yrs old........

I've got a song I call, "Natural Insomniac". The guitar player, back in May of 2007, Manny had played some of those Arabic scales in it and I really liked the way the sound came out. I have a real rough cut of how the song started here. It's just Manny on lead, me on bass, and a keyboard rhythm. The song is pretty different now and has lyrics, but this was how it started. It cuts out abruptly on this version:

Here is a good lesson on modes. A lot of the Stuff Satriani talks about is how I mess around with scales. I put my self into certain moods by turning the lights low and running scales over sing notes just like he does on the video. I love that Phrygian scale...man it sets cool moods for me @ times.

That's a great video, H. It's great how he mixes up all those scales; that Phrygian dominant reminds me of walking through the Souk (market) in the Middle East.

Satriani is awesome. Always digged him more than Vai when it came to the rock guitar shredders.

I like what you came up with...if you ever want to try recording it on my Tascam 24 track let me know. I can come up with some cool lead lines for you.

I saw him in Germany in a pretty mid size venue ( sort of like the stampede) back when he did the "Living in a Blue Dream" CD. It was Satch, Stu Hamm, and some Drummer....'Kin amazing!!!

H**** sumtimes whenever i hear sumone talk about music on a whole different scale i feel like less of a musician ya know i mean i knew what he was talking about and everything but its like as if he knew what he was talking about confidently i know a thing or two about modes but that taught me alot more in that video i feel like a piece of shit right now as a musician ugh

Damned if I know... but I'd guess it's the name thing. He sure doesn't look like Louis Armstrong. ;-)

His success is notable in a genre typically unfriendly to instrumental musicians. Satriani has received 14 Grammy (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grammy_Award) nominations[9] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joe_Satriani#_note-6) and has sold more than 10 million albums (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Album) worldwide.[10] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joe_Satriani#_note-7) Many of his fans and friends call him "Satch," short for "Satriani". Other guitarists sometimes refer to him as "Saint Joe"; there are numerous t-shirts to this effect.[citation needed (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Citation_needed)]

I think so too. Vai is amazing though. I like both their styles in a different way. the ones I never got into are the no sense shreaders ( Malmsteen, Angelo, et al). To me they played fast, but with no passion. Another awesome guitarist is Nuno Bettencourt from Extreme.

Are kidding me I can't even keep up with myself. After buying Moe's guitar on Saturday I went out to Benny's on Monday and put Yamaha Pacifica on layaway. I really fell in love with it bacause it had a really nice flame top with alder body.

Here is a picture of my next guitar. I just have to convince Hector that his buddy will never pick it up again, and that the storage fees his friend has incurred are far more than the guitar is worth.
