this is my baby. Nothing special about this guitar...though it did survive two cracks at the headstock near the nech. The Headstock was snapped almost at a 45 degree angle
Joe Hurd was able to fix it twice. why I love this guitar so much? Well it did not dent the pocket book ( only cost me $549), it plays great...came to me that way ( I baught it from Musicians Friend). It sounds good. Lastly it is a Gibson. Not only I have a fondness for The Les Paul Special. I saw Jonathan Cain of Journey using one EXCATLY like mine when they last came to El paso and plaed @ the AC Theater.
Specs? Nothing Special:
490R humbucker at the neck
498T humbucker at the bridge
Mahogany body
1960 slim taper neck
Rosewood 22-fret fingerboard
Chrome hardware

Mine is my PRS Custom 22. I was visiting family in Denver when the other guitarist in Krimson came into town to purchase a Mesa Boogie cab. We met up at Guitar Center PRS to demo and purchase the cab. My buddy grabbed a PRS when the sales person tells him, "This PRS right here is $1000 today only". My eyes lit up, as my buddy declined. Then just as I tried to convince my wife to let me buy it some guy grabbed it and tried it out. I was a little worried but by the time he was done I had convinced the wife and she let me lay down the plastic for it. This guitar was my first high end guitar and the first of my four PRS guitar. I can get a variety of tones with this guitar using the 5 way rotary switch. The nice best thing about this guitar is I know I can always sell it for more than I paid. Custom 22 PRS guitar normally sell for about $1500 in the used market.
Here are some specs:
Mahogany body and neck
Purple Flamed Maple Top
22 Fret Rosewood neck with Birds
Dragon II pickups

Gisbson Les Paul Studio....fits all my needs, very versatile and I got it for 800 bones.

Second fave is my Gibson Voodoo SG, light as a feather and hotter pickups than the Paul. 500T in the bridge and 498 in the neck.
I've played both so much the finish on both necks is already wearing off.

This is my Les Paul,I bought it from a guy who had a shop off of Pebble Hills back in the mid 80s,I believe the name of the his store was called MadMax guitars.
I bought it as is with the Floyd Rose and some crappy ass pick ups in it,,I sent it off to Barry and he fixed the terrible job that somebody did on the guitar when they tried to install the tremelo,he also replaced the pick ups with some hot,,maybe too hot Dimarzios.
I wish to this day that I would of been able to find an old Les Paul like this one that hadnt been hacked on,but I got it at a good price 4 bills, but back in those days,I was just dying to get ahold of a Les Paul, and this one just happened to have a tremelo.
The damm thing stays in tune all night, even after some thrashing, its still holds tune.http://i182.photobucket.com/albums/x88/eddies880/IMG_0365.jpg

Peavey XXX, and while it was good for metal, I wanted a more classic sound(I play more of a hard rock style anyway), so I sold it and haven't regretted it one bit. The Peavey also had a really weird mid voicing I didn't like. I like the Marshall mids very much.

I like the neck. It has a nice new, unfinished feel. I really like the neck pickup, but the bridge could use a little more bottom end. The jumbo frets feel great. I may just take it out today, although I'm a little worried about taking it out without extra strings or a backup. I don't like to take more than 3 guitars to a gig, so if I take it out and a string breaks I'll be stuck playing the doubleneck for the rest of the night.

So I took out the new Floyd Rose guitar yesterday. I really liked it, the only issue that I had with it was were getting crisp clean sounds. My PRS guitars have 5 way switches that can coil tap so I'm ver accostomed to clean straty tones. I couldn't get a that from this current setup. I think I may install a push pull pot to split the neck so it doesn't sound so fat.
Here is a pick the Robbie (Steelheels) took yesterday.

Bye the way, the guitar stays in tune very well. I actually made a bet with Earl before the gig that it would stay in tune. My reaction was like, I hope it stays in tune because I don't have an tuners. So I went home with an extra dollar last night.

I don't have a meter. I was gonna try and coil tap the pickups but I don't think I'll really have time to do it. On a side note I went down to Guitar Center and scored some strings for that Floyd Rose Speedloader. They had 12 sets and I bought ten of them for $2.99. That should keep me okay for about year or so.

Here's my baby... Geronimo rode her hard the last few years but she's still hot...

Seven-way switching, Duncan hotrail in the bridge, locking tuners, strap locks, light as a feather, and sustains fer days.

Custom made to my specs. Notice the genuine Geronimo Black cigarette butt still stuck in her headstock.
Yeah, she's easy but I wouldn't trade her for anything.

Of course, he has a guitar of his own now, so he doesn't need her any more.
Wait a minute. I think I just figured something out...

Ahhh. All is clear now.

Nice axe Mike.\
What kinda tone do you get out of the Duncan hot rail?
Is it bright high end--bright midrange---a little beefy in the low end?

Eddie, I'm not much of a guitarist, I don't have the vocabulary to answer! It's just nice and crunchy. Gets a real nice distortion that is good for lots of styles.
I'm looking forward to getting re-aquainted with her. Thinking about getting a Blues Jr. or something - I don't even have an amp right now, I've been playing it through a modeling pedal.
Geronimo? Are you lurking out there? Describe the tone for Eddie.

Blues Jr. are great amps. They sound great and they are very mobile.

If we're talking Favorite Axe Pictures, this has to be my very favorite.
Here's one of the last pictures I have of my father, holding my guitar when it was new. He could barely hold it and he couldn't press the strings hard enough to play a chord any more, but he was determined to try.

Another reason I'd never let go of it.

This is my nine-year-old's band. They only do originals and they are very serious about it. My daughter is the one on keyboard and she is the songwriter, too.

Amazingly my son walked into my rehearsal room the other day while I was practicing and wanted to play my guitar. My son hasn't really taken any interest in playing up to this point so, I immediately took advantage of the moment and let him strap on one of my guitars.
Here's a video (not sure if this works on the forum)

Thank heavens they had time to make a CD. I've got copies for anyone who wants one. You'll be amazed.

wow...I have not been keeping up with this thread, being an outsider as a drummer. Some very cool pics there, Miguel's daughter's band, and that video of Keiths son is waaaaaaaaaaaay cool. It reminds me of a tune I recorded w/ Ryan way back when. I had recorded a guitar riff and had him write and sing his own lyrics to it. It's hilarious.

See if it was worth all the work.

Yes, some even have 12.
For those who've never seen one before, A Chapman Stick is a "tapping" instrument; you play notes my "hammering", and you do it with both hands. Tones range from bass to high guitar, so a skilled Stick player can cover both bass and guitar ranges. Very very cool.

He's been laying off it because it doesn't exactly fit in with the bands he's been in the last few years, but this band is definitely the right band for it.

Oh well indeed. I guess you have to appreciate the honesty of someone who lets you know right up front that they don't mind insulting you.
Why I keep running into that type is beyond me. And they all play guitar, and usually badly. Like I said, guitarists hate Stick players. It's an ego thing.
By the way Wench, most forums have an "ignore user" feature. Does this one?

I don't think this is meant to replace a guitar; it's just another way to play strings, and play it kinda the way you play a piano.

You have no idea how long I wanted a Taylor for. Everytime I would go out of town I would stop by a guitar center and make my wife listen to how nice every Taylor sounded compared to every other brand. I finally sold a Washburn N4 to get the Taylor, so I am covered when it comes to acoustics, although I would like a nice classical guitar. Those Cordoba's sure are nice.
